MBF Launches Young Talent Awards 2009

Musicians Benevolent Fund

The Musicians Benevolent Fund has just launched the MBF Young Talent Awards 2009. Instrumentalists and singers aged eighteen or under can apply for awards ranging from £200 to £1,000. Last year almost £90,000 was distributed, and more than a hundred young people in financial need benefited.

Entry guidelines are available here. Awards can be used to purchase musical instruments, and to pay for private music lessons or attendance at Saturday music centers. They are open to people from all musical backgrounds, and recent beneficiaries have included a number of very talented young pianists.

Applicants need to have achieved a Distinction in their most recent practical exam (or be able to prove equivalent ability). They must also be British or Irish, or have been resident in the UK or Ireland for three years prior to the closing date (June 12th 2009). An application form is available from the MBF's website.
